Role: Metal Welder (Burner, Heat Treatment Worker, Flame Straightener)

Job Summary
Beyond training in the first 2 weeks, you will be responsible for flame straightening; correcting distortions in metal components using controlled heat application. Using oxy-acetylene or similar torches to straighten plates, welded parts and structural shapes; ensuring conformance to engineering specifications.
Details of the role
Hours: Mon to Wed 07:00 to 17:00, Thurs 07:00 to 16:30. Overtime is available on Friday paid at time and a half. Rate: £28,529 basic, £32,370 once fully trained. (£14.63 hourly rate equivalent start rate). Status: Permanent after 18 weeks, following 'probationary' period.
Key Responsibilities
* Choose the correct torch tips and settings based on material type, thickness and required temperature.
* Connect and operate oxy-fuel equipment safely, adjusting flame characteristics for precision heating.
* Apply heat to metal surfaces to induce thermal expansion and contraction for straightening.
* Prior experience using measuring and inspection tools; using straightedges, templates or gauges to verify alignment (training will be provided).
* Perform minor mechanical & metal work corrections (e.g. hammering out bulges/ bends).
* Maintain equipment and adhere to safety protocols during thermal operations.
* Collaborate with Fabricators, Welders, Platers, TL's and other Engineers to support fabrication and repair workflows.
Skills & Qualifications
* Proficiency in oxy-acetylene torch operation (training will be given).
* Understanding of material behaviour under heat (especially steel, stainless and aluminium).
* Ability to read technical drawings and follow straightening procedures (training will be given).
* Experience in structural fabrication (ideal, not essential).
* Strong attention to detail and safety awareness is essential.
* Anyone who has worked in heat treatment, furnace, burning or hot steel processing background would be ideal.
