With a proud heritage and a unique approach to retail, Jarrold is known for offering something truly different – especially when it comes to its much-loved Book Department.
Jarrold are looking for a passionate and experienced Book Buyer to join the team on a part-time basis to cover maternity leave. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who genuinely loves books and understands the world of publishing, retail, or literary events.
Daily duties:
Carefully curating a range of books that reflects customer interests and emerging trends
Managing stock levels and department budgets to ensure commercial success
Planning and delivering engaging events like author signings and seasonal promotions, working closely with the marketing team
Building strong relationships with publishers, suppliers, authors, and the in-store retail team
Attending trade shows and visiting other Jarrold branches when required (a full UK driving licence is essential)Requirements for the role:
Someone with experience in the book trade – whether in buying, bookselling, publishing, or literary events
A genuine love for books and a good grasp of what’s popular with readers
Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to maintain and grow supplier relationships
Strong organisational skills and a commercial mindset
