About the Role
Our client is a fast-growing, ambitious science and technology organisation developing a world-class research campus in Oxford. With significant investment into a flagship, high-spec development, they are seeking an electrically biased Senior Maintenance Engineer to play a key role across both the build phase and long-term operation of the site.
The initial 12–18 months will focus on construction integration, commissioning, and operational readiness, including developing a deep understanding of building systems and establishing maintenance strategies ahead of handover. You will also advise contractors and project teams to ensure systems are delivered with long-term operability and maintainability in mind. Post-completion, you will lead maintenance delivery, managing a team to ensure high performance, reliability, and minimal downtime across a complex, multi-site environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop detailed knowledge of building systems during construction, supporting commissioning and long-term maintainability
* Act as the engineering lead during the build phase, advising contractors and project teams to ensure systems are designed, installed, and commissioned in line with operational and maintenance requirements
* Establish maintenance strategies, procedures, and operational standards ahead of site handover
* Lead and manage maintenance delivery across sites, ensuring performance, compliance, and minimal downtime
* Oversee preventative and reactive maintenance, acting as escalation point for complex technical issues
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and technicians
* Manage contractors post-handover, ensuring quality, safety, and delivery standards are maintained
Essential Requirements
* Engineering qualification (apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or degree)
* Proven experience in a senior or supervisory maintenance role
* Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and building services systems
* Experience managing both preventative and reactive maintenance programmes
* Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
* Experience leading teams and managing performance
* Strong understanding of health & safety and compliance requirements
* Able to work across multiple sites
Desirable Experience
* Experience within laboratory, healthcare, or other regulated environments
* Exposure to commissioning, soft landings, or new-build projects
* Experience working on high-spec or complex facilities
