Job Description

Role can be Hybrid or Remote Subject to Location

NEC Digital seeks a Front-end React Developer. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining web applications utilising React and, with a focus on delivering secure solutions as cloud SaaS or on-premises as required. The role demands collaboration within a skilled cross-functional Scrum team to implement new features, enhance existing functionality, and ensure adherence to accessibility, performance, and test quality standards. SC clearance is mandatory for this position.

1. Implement features that meet acceptance criteria using React and
2. Write production-ready code with automated tests, accessibility checks, performance profiling, and robust error and loading states.
3. Perform code reviews and give clear, actionable feedback within Git workflows.
4. Integrate REST APIs, manage state, ensure data integrity, and document changes for reuse.
5. Build and maintain reusable components and front-end libraries aligned to the design system.
6. Translate designs into accessible, performant UI and validate technical feasibility early.
7. Optimise rendering, bundle size, and caching for speed and scalability across devices and browsers.
8. Collaborate with product, design, QA, and back end to deliver small, reversible increments.
9. Contribute to architecture and front-end best practices.
10. Track emerging web standards and tools and propose improvements

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience

11. Professional, commercial front-end development experience.
12. Strong React and TypeScript skills, including component composition, hooks, and disciplined use of static typing.
13. Experience with modern form and validation libraries, for example React Hook Form, and good patterns for managing form state.
14. Practical experience with routing, core SSR concepts, and deploying applications.
15. Good working knowledge of test-driven development (TDD), including the red, green, refactor cycle, component and integration tests, effective use of test doubles and mocks, and fast, deterministic suites.
16. Confident writing automated tests with Jest and React Testing Library.
17. Strong understanding of accessibility, including semantic HTML, WCAG AA, and working with the Design System.
18. Experience consuming APIs and handling structured data, ideally with exposure to enterprise platforms or OData.

Desirable skills

19. Component libraries, experience with design systems and contributing components.
20. Familiarity with data modelling concepts and relational basics.
21. TanStack Query or similar data-fetching libraries.
22. End-to-end testing with Cypress or Playwright.
23. SnapLogic familiarity is helpful but not required.
24. Storybook for UI documentation and visual reviews.
25. Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and Visual Studio Code.
26. Figma for design collaboration and handoff, Mural for collaborative workshops.
27. Knowledge of web performance optimisation techniques.
28. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

29. Clear and concise communication, both written and verbal.
30. Ownership and accountability to see work through to production.
31. Pragmatic problem-solving and prioritisation.
32. Constructive challenges and effectively give and receive feedback.
33. Advocates Agile Scrum ways of working and commits to Sprint Goals.
34. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
35. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality code.
36. Proactive approach to learning and staying updated with the latest front-end technologies and best practices.

Security clearance and eligibility

37. Active UK Security Check (SC) required to start.
38. Candidates must meet residency requirements for SC transfer.
