We’re supporting a welcoming primary school in the NP20 area of Newport, which has a specialist provision for pupils with additional needs. The school is seeking a 1:1 Behaviour Mentor to support a Key Stage 1 child with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). This role is ideal for someone who is patient, dependable, and passionate about breaking down barriers to learning.
The Role
You’ll provide consistent one-to-one support throughout the school day, helping the child with emotional regulation, social skills, and engagement with learning. You’ll build trust and structure to help them feel safe, understood, and valued.
Key responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 support during lessons and transitions
* Build a strong, supportive relationship with the pupil
* Use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
* Support both learning activities and emotional development
* Follow guidance from the SENCO and external professionals
* Work closely with staff to promote a calm, inclusive environment

You will:
* Have experience supporting children or young people with EBD, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or behavioural needs
* Stay calm and positive under pressure
* Communicate clearly and build strong relationships
* Be consistent, empathetic, and reliable
* Understand the importance of safeguarding and inclusion
* Be proactive and able to work well as part of a team
You don’t need to be a qualified teacher or TA—life experience and commitment can be just as valuable. Training and ongoing support are provided.

* Start Date: September/October 2025
* Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (8:30am–3:30pm), term-time only
* Pay: £12.90 per hour (weekly pay via agency)
* Contract: Temporary, with potential to become permanent

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
