Job Overview
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is seeking a full‑time substantive Consultant Vascular Surgeon to join its team of seven consultants providing services across North Wales. This role is part recruitment, part expansion, aimed at increasing surgical provision at spoke sites. The successful candidate will rotate weekly in eight weeks as Vascular Consultant of the Week (VCOW) and every eight weeks for overnight on‑call.
Main Duties
* Collaborate with consultant colleagues to provide specialist services at designated hospitals, responsible for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease.
* Maintain responsibility for patient care in liaison with consultants and ensure departmental functioning in line with Operational Policy and Strategic Plan.
* Supervise and manage junior medical staff; serve as the person responsible for resident doctors’ training when appropriate.
* Participate in continuing medical education as approved by the Educational Lead, Director and Chief Executive Officer.
* Contribute to clinical audit in line with the Board’s clinical governance policy.
* Participate in the North Wales Vascular Network on‑call rota.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from interview date.
* Specialist Registration in Vascular Surgery.
* FRCS (Vascular) or equivalent qualification.
* Appropriate higher Vascular Surgical qualification.
Desirable Qualifications
* MD or other higher degree.
Experience
Essential
* Broad training in Vascular Surgery.
* Broad Vascular Surgery experience.
* Experience in management of vascular trauma.
* Commitment to participation in management processes.
* Experience delivering postgraduate teaching.
Desirable
* Fellowship in Vascular Surgery.
* Experience in EVAR and other endovascular interventions.
* Evidence of management training.
* Experience leading a multidisciplinary team.
Skills and Abilities
Essential

* Evidence of teaching medical students and junior doctors.
* Counselling skills.
* Current knowledge of vascular surgery practice.
