Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapy Assistant to work within our Acute Stroke team at Eastbourne District General Hospital.
As part of this role, you will work within a team of Occupational Therapists providing a high level of acute rehabilitation to patients admitted following an acute stroke.
You will be required to work alongside the therapists and autonomously carry out exercise and maintenance programmes. Your role will also involve supporting both group and rehabilitation sessions planned by a therapist.
You will have the opportunity to attend an in‑service training programme and complete supervision sessions with your line manager.
Responsibilities include supporting data inputting and assisting with the ordering of equipment through the Millbrook system to ensure timely discharge for patients across the trust.

Main duties of the job
* Assist registered practitioners in supporting patients with a rehabilitation programme, promoting independence and supporting active recovery.
* Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team providing therapeutic care as delegated by the registered practitioner(s).
* Work closely with patients and their families/carers under the distant supervision of the registered practitioners, providing accurate feedback to the appropriate practitioner(s).
* This is a full‑time role working 37.5 hours per week.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Good level of general education including A levels and GCSE or equivalents including functional skills level 2.
* Advanced / higher level apprenticeship (e.g., AP apprenticeship) or NVQ level 4 in a relevant subject (or equivalent).
* GCSE grade 4 or GCSE C and above.
* Level 2 functional skills or health care support worker apprenticeship / NVQ level 2 in a relevant subject.
* Level 3 apprenticeship (e.g., senior health care support worker) or NVQ level 3 in a relevant subject (or equivalent).
* Care certificate.
Experience
* Experience in health or social care settings such as employment, work experience, volunteering or placements.
* Demonstrate the values of the NHS and commitment to personal and professional development.
Skills
* Demonstrating respect, kindness and empathy at all times.
* Understanding role boundaries and the importance of supervision and carrying out appropriately delegated tasks.
* Able to understand and follow procedures, protocols and plans.
