Theatre Practitioner
Albyn Hospital, Aberdeen – Circle Health Group. 37.5 hours, Permanent. Salary up to £38,000 per year (based on experience, training and qualification).
Overview
This full‑time role requires a Theatre Practitioner to support surgical, anaesthetic and recovery teams across a range of procedures. The role involves preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating the surgeon’s needs, and providing post‑operative care. The holder will work flexible shift patterns covering surgical lists.
Responsibilities
* Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety.
* Support the anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management and positioning.
* Provide post‑operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
* Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
* Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
* Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
* Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
* Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
* Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics or recovery.
* Understanding of infection control, manual handling and patient safety principles.
* Ability to work under pressure, problem‑solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Attention to detail, accuracy and commitment to safe surgical practice.
