Job Description:
What does the job involve?
To support the engineering functions within LPE by programming, setting, and proving new products on various machining centres and lathes. To develop and improve production processes and best practices while maintaining high standards of quality.
Hours of work: 39 hours per week.
Dayshift: Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 4.30pm and Friday 8.00am to 1.00pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
Responsibilities include:
1. Providing engineering solutions through CNC programming from customer drawings and models.
2. Setting up and proving out programs on 3, 4, & 5 axis machining centres to production standards.
3. Creating detailed manufacturing process plans, routings, and loading them into the ERP system (IFS).
4. Providing documentation for shop personnel, including tooling, fixtures, gauges, and set-up sheets.
5. Reviewing existing CNC programs and manufacturing methods to identify improvements.
6. Developing best practices to enhance production capacity, quality, and reliability.
7. Investigating problems, analyzing root causes, and deriving resolutions.
8. Collaborating with the Engineering team, Production, and Shop Floor.
9. Supporting Quality/Inspection departments when needed.
10. Managing workload distribution within the Engineering department under the guidance of the Engineering Manager.
11. Producing detailed 2D and 3D drawings to aid manufacturing.
12. Reviewing and creating plans, specifications, and customer documentation.
13. Designing fixtures in collaboration with shop floor engineers.
14. Maintaining notes on design, tooling, and other documentation for future reference.
15. Understanding and documenting the effects of treatments and coatings on materials.
16. Performing other tasks as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
17. Training others as needed.
Key Skills and Experience:
1. Legal right to work in the UK (Essential).
2. Minimum 5 years manufacturing engineering experience.
3. Proficiency in creating programs and models in CAM systems.
4. Experience working with a range of materials to tight tolerances.
5. Good understanding of G, D, & T codes.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Passion for product and process excellence and customer satisfaction.
8. Experience programming, setting, and operating 3, 4, & 5 axis CNC machines, including Mazak, Fanuc, and Heidenhain controls.
9. In-depth knowledge of engineering processes, materials, and treatments.
10. CAD/CAM training (Mastercam) is desirable.
11. Good knowledge of ERP systems (IFS) is desirable.
12. Ability to produce accurate drawings/models according to ISO and ASME Y14.5 standards (Desirable).
Qualifications:
1. Basic O’ Level / GCSE qualifications, with technical qualifications such as City & Guilds or NVQ.
2. Full UK Driving Licence.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
4. Security Clearance (Desirable).
5. Apprentice-trained (Desirable).
