Overview

Job summary Our client, a leading contractor in the Infrastructure sector, is currently looking for a diligent Health & Safety (H&S) Advisor/ Manager to join their team on a contract basis.

This role is pivotal for overseeing the development and implementation of health and safety policies within major highway projects, ensuring a secure working environment for all employees.


Responsibilities

* Investigating accidents and incidents: Thoroughly investigate workplace accidents and incidents to determine the root cause and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
* Providing training and guidance to employees: Educate employees on safe work practices, hazard awareness, and the proper use of safety equipment.
* Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation: Stay up-to-date with relevant laws and regulations, ensuring the organisation meets all legal requirements.
* Monitoring and auditing H&S performance: Regularly monitor the effectiveness of safety procedures, conduct audits, and make recommendations for improvement.
* Managing the H&S team: If applicable, hire, train, and supervise other members of the H&S team.
* Developing and implementing H&S policies and procedures: Create a comprehensive framework for managing workplace safety, including risk assessments, safe work procedures, and emergency plans.
* Conducting risk assessments and hazard identification: Regularly assess the workplace for potential hazards and risks, and develop strategies to eliminate or mitigate them.


Qualifications

* Experience in managing health and safety within major projects, specifically in the highway sector.
* Proven ability to develop and implement robust H&S policies and procedures.
* Strong understanding of relevant health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
* Proficiency in conducting thorough risk assessments and hazard identification.
* Excellent investigative skills for analysing accidents and incidents.
* Effective communicator with proven skills in training and guiding employees.
* Capacity to monitor, audit, and enhance H&S performance effectively.
* Leadership capabilities for managing an H&S team, if required.
