The role
As a Principal Systems Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Joining our Mission Systems business unit, you will be responsible for modelling and simulation across the extensive modernisation and further development of the UK MOD satellite network, known as Skynet Service Delivery Wrapper (SDW).
Day-to-day, you’ll take a detailed orientated and methodical approach to modelling and simulation across the extensive modernisation and further development of Skynet using tools such as Ansys STK.
Responsibilities
* Provision of Holistic Life Cycle Systems Engineering support to Engineering Work Packages, including an understanding of the CADMID/T life cycle and its alignment with systems/product life cycles
* Delivery of systems engineering activities in accordance with the Top-Level Engineering Management Plan (EMP) and ITEA Strategy, from requirements capture to delivery
* Provide leadership of Model Based System Engineering and undertake ArchiMate modelling and STK Simulation of the system under development
* Own all SE artifacts for your assigned work packages, including development of engineering plans in conjunction with the technical lead for your work packages
* Apply Systems Engineering best practice and systems thinking to develop solutions tailored to meet requirements
* Identify and communicate Technical Risk, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies and Opportunities (RAIDO) for assigned work packages linked to the Programme Level RAIDO
* Develop estimates of engineering activity, duration and resource requirements
Essential Experience
* Experience in a technical discipline who is able to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team; strong written and oral communication with customers/stakeholders
* Ability to identify and manage interfaces, specifications, and certificates; experience with IBM DOORS, STK and EA SPARX
* Proven ability to undertake technical management of internal and external sub-contractors; SE experience across the engineering life cycle (concept to supportability)
* Experienced in management of technical and project risks
Qualifications
Ideally you will hold a degree or equivalent within an Engineering Discipline; we value difference and don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and/or willingness to learn.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance for this role. This and other positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
