We’re looking to appoint a Payroll Manager with responsibility for end‑to‑end processing of a complex outsourced UK & Ireland Payroll, along with the day‑to‑day management of benefit schemes including pension and private healthcare. The position reports to our UK&I HR Director and is based at our UK head office in Runcorn.
We currently operate a hybrid working pattern with the ability to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
* Responsible for the day‑to‑day management and processing of all pay‑related activities on a monthly, and annual basis, namely, overtime, sickness, pension, salary changes.
* Ensure all transactional pension processes are completed in line with legislative or company requirements, demonstrating leadership of the whole process and managing internal and external stakeholders.
* Take ownership of the relationship with our payroll provider to ensure a partnership approach is attained with ADP, working in collaboration to ensure software updates and monthly payroll processing schedules are agreed and completed in a timely manner. Highlight and manage any issues that occur and ensure accuracy of employee pay is central to activities by all parties.
* Create, manage, and review all payroll related processes and controls to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and employee focus.
* Communicate with all stakeholders in a professional and employee‑centric way, ensuring all enquiries are managed in a timely and accurate way.
* Produce monthly and annual reports that are required by the organisation whilst seeking improvements to the data provided.
* Take ownership of the day‑to‑day management of employee benefits, ensuring all new employees are enrolled into the correct benefit schemes. Review and administer annual renewals of current schemes and the implementation of enhancements.
* Lead on communication and understanding of all relevant changes to legislation, policies and initiatives to all internal and external stakeholders.
* Take the lead role with annual payroll processing events such as salary review, bonus payments and P11D processing.
* Administer tax year‑end ensuring accurate and timely returns are made to the Controller General in Ireland and HMRC in the UK. Additionally, enable P60s to be available to all employees in UK and Ireland.
* Be the point of contact for payroll‑related employee queries; ensuring an up‑to‑date knowledge of tax code and other payroll specific topics.
Skills and experience
* A proficiency in/experience of using payroll systems and working within strict payroll processes.
* Experience of ADP and Workday would be an advantage.
* Have previously been responsible for the processing of a complex outsourced payroll.
* Strong analytical and organisational skills.
* CIPP or similar qualification is desired, with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of good practice, current thinking, and end‑to‑end payroll processing.
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong knowledge of pension regulations.
