Quarry Manager — Glensanda, Oban, Scotland
We now have a fantastic opportunity for a Quarry Manager to lead the Secondary Production Operations at Glensanda, the UK’s largest granite quarry and one of the most unique operations in Europe.
This role puts you in charge of the processing side of the quarry, overseeing the handling of more than 6.5 million tonnes of material each year and ensuring the smooth loading of around three vessels per week. Working in a 24/7 environment, you’ll manage a team of over 60 through Shift Managers, a Maintenance Manager, Deputy Managers and Skilled Operators.
You’ll be responsible for delivering operational efficiency, cost control and compliance under the Quarry Regulations, while promoting a strong safety culture and driving continuous improvement across all aspects of production.
Glensanda is only accessible via the Holcim ferry from Benderloch, so you can either make the daily trip or stay onsite in free en-suite accommodation. As part of the onsite community, you’ll also have access to a gym, sauna, games room, TV rooms and a canteen.
Key aspects of the role
* Acting as the Quarry Regulations 8.1(c) appointment, ensuring compliance and statutory responsibility.
* Leading and developing a large operational team through your managers, building capability and engagement.
* Driving operational efficiencies, with a strong focus on stockpile management, vessel loading and cost control.
* Managing the environmental impact, health and safety, and quality risks in line with Holcim policies and legal obligations.
* Working closely with the Maintenance Manager to ensure asset performance and reliability across fixed and mobile plant.
* Managing budgets and reporting performance, ensuring delivery against agreed production and cost targets.
* Collaborating with other senior leaders onsite to contribute to the wider management of Glensanda.
Who you are
* An experienced quarrying professional, holding a valid 8.1 appointment.
* Skilled in stockpile management and quarrying operations.
* A proven people leader with the ability to manage large teams through supervisors and managers.
* Commercially astute, with an understanding of budgets, cost control and operational efficiencies.
* A strong communicator who can engage at all levels and build positive working relationships across the site.
* Committed to safety, sustainability and continuous improvement.
