Purpose of the Role
As a member of the Fluids discipline within the Engineering Department, the Fluids Engineer shall provide an engineering service for the company either individually or as part of a team, overseeing the engineering of a specific portion of a project, including productivity, technical output, progress, health and safety, and compliance.
Responsibilities
* Produce, monitor, and verify technically compliant and cost‑effective design documentation (block diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, Bill of Materials, calculations, manuals, etc.) to meet project requirements and company operating procedures, statutory obligations, and National Standards.
* Contribute to and create 3D models of pipework systems using available 3D piping design packages.
* Serve as the technical focus for Fluids aspects of all projects within the project team, ensuring successful and commercially viable contract execution, including monitoring progress and change management.
* Develop and maintain productive relationships with other departments, design partners, and company offices to ensure design work meets their needs and to seek ideas for particular solutions.
* Comply with company operating procedures and statutory obligations; participate in project Design & Safety Reviews, Risk Assessments, etc.
* Ensure design and manufacture of equipment are carried out to required standards, within budget and agreed timescales.
* Provide technical support to ensure equipment is manufactured, tested, installed, and commissioned in accordance with design and operational requirements.
* Participate in equipment inspection, testing, and commissioning activities at manufacturer and customer sites.
* Support the proposals team by producing technical specifications and scopes of supply for fluid systems, including costing of equipment for proposal bids.
* Develop, maintain, and cultivate relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure successful project execution and future business.
Knowledge & Skills
* Good understanding of the requirements of heavy‑industry turnkey projects.
* Fluids basic and detailed design skills, capable of producing innovative, robust designs suitable for manufacture and operation in harsh environments.
* Design calculation ability, typically using Microsoft Excel.
* IT literate with department and business system tools, especially AutoCAD.
Desirable
* Advanced 3D CAD skills (preferably Autodesk Inventor, CADWorx, Siemens NX).
Experience
* Experience in heavy industry, preferably in a Fluids Design Engineering role.
* Experience in project engineering and the project lifecycle from contract award through to installation/commissioning from a specific engineering discipline view.
* Experience in the iron & steel industry is advantageous.
Location: Middlesbrough, England, United Kingdom. Salary: £36,000.00 – £44,000.00. Employment type: Full‑time.
