Applications are invited for Band 6 Registered Neonatal Nurses to work within our neonatal unit.

We are looking for highly motivated, compassionate, enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join our neonatal nursing team. We have a part time position available for an individual with a positive attitude and good communication skills.

Our Neonatal Unit is situated in Ormskirk, Lancashire and is part of the Northwest Neonatal Operational Delivery Network. The Unit is a Level 2 Local Neonatal Unit with 10 cots which includes 1 Intensive Care cot, 1 High Dependency cot, 8 Special Care cots, and a 4 cot Transitional Care Service.

We have achieved Green in our FICare accreditation and we have recently achieved Stage 2 BFI accreditation.

We strive to provide high quality, safe and effective care and are looking for someone with the vision, skill and enthusiasm to help take the unit forward.

The Paediatric and Neonatal Teams have been innovative and forward thinking, developing our own very skilled and competent ENP’s, APNP’s and ANNP's to ensure a stable and supportive workforce, and we are continuing to develop and value our staff in this way.


Main duties of the job

* To promote the maintenance of standards for professional practices in order to enhance the quality of care for patient.
* To support and participate in the functions required to fulfil the goals and services provided by the Unit.
* Act in a consultative capacity on nursing issues in the absence of the Unit Manager or Lead Neonatal Nurse.
* Act as an associate Nurse for a specified area of responsibility.
* To ensure Trust and Unit objectives for the service are achieved.
* To ensure awareness of policies and procedures in relation to the safeguarding of children

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Person specification


Qualifications

* Professional Registration in a relevant speciality RSCN, RN (Child), RM, RGN, RN (Adult)
* Diploma or degree in Health related subject, or actively working towards same
* ENB 997/8 mentorship course or equivalent


Knowledge and Experience

* Recent relevant clinical experience as a senior neonatal nurse.
* Evidence of clinical expertise in Neonatal nursing
* Evidence of ability to lead and develop nursing practice and promote excellence in clinical practice.
* Evidence of mentoring students and supporting staff development
* Evidence of a sound specialist knowledge base of caring for neonates including critically ill and premature neonates and the impact on the child and their family
* Knowledge of effective shift management and ability to prioritise
* Knowledge of interagency working to ensure optimum service to the infant and family
* Knowledge of infection control management, policy and procedures
* Demonstrates knowledge of clinical governance (CG) at paediatric level
* Shift management experience of a small neonatal unit or an area in a larger regional unit
* Experience of transporting infants including critically ill infants
* Experience of critical incident management
* Experience of supporting junior medics
* Experience of assisting with the development of clinical protocols and policies
* Experience of undertaking appraisals and developing Personal Development Plans

* Up to date clinical skills in order to ensure quality of services being provided
* Able to prioritise effectively
* Effective team leader and change agent
* Able to take responsibility for and identified area of clinical practice
