Specialist Dietitian for Spinal Injuries

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a permanent Band 7 Specialist Dietitian to join the dietetic team at the Princess Royal Spinal Cord Injuries Centre. The role focuses on the dietetic management of spinal injuries and will be integral to the multidisciplinary team at the Northern General Hospital (NGH).
Responsibilities
- Lead the dietetic management of spinal injury patients and support the acute team at NGH.
- Collaborate with the wider dietetic team and MDT to optimise nutritional care.
- Contribute to evidence‑based practice through research and audit projects.
- Train, supervise and mentor dietetic students and junior dietitians (Band 5 and 6).
- Provide team‑lead responsibilities and support the professional development of the acute dietetic team.
- Engage in service improvement, educational activities and support departmental structures and systems.
Qualifications
- BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics or a relevant degree with a Post‑Graduate Diploma in Dietetics.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Post‑registration qualification at master’s level in nutritional support (e.g., PEN clinical update).
- Experience and knowledge of nutritional support for hospital in‑patients and out‑patients.
- BDA‑accredited or equivalent behaviour‑change counselling and motivational skills training.
- University‑accredited clinical supervisory training for student dietitians.
- Recognised teaching qualification.
- Evidence‑based practice and audit training.
- Experience leading a team of dietitians.
Experience
- Extensive senior post‑registration dietetic experience in a nutrition‑support specialty.
- Independent working with complex caseloads and shifting priorities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of nutritional assessment and management for spinal injury patients, including enteral feeding and related equipment.
- Supervisory experience with staff and students.
- Ability to assess and manage a high‑volume, intensive caseload.

- Comprehensive skills in training and mentoring healthcare professionals and student dietitians.

- Experience in audit, research and evidence‑based practice.
- Ability to plan and deliver educational resources to patients, carers and the team.
- Proficiency with clinical governance and service improvement processes.
- Proficiency in standard office software, dietary analysis, and database use.

Salary: £49,387 to £56,515 a year (pro‑rata for part‑time staff).
