In-Service Support Engineer

This role provides opportunities to develop expertise across defence support, customer relations, contract management, technical investigations, diagnostics, repair, testing and trials on live platforms, project team leadership, obsolescence management, and design support.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the delivery of In-Service support obligations, working closely with Project Managers, System Design Authorities, and end users.
* Ensure support project approaches remain aligned with Defence Standards and customer contract requirements.
* Respond proactively to technical issues, including customer fault reports and queries.
* Collaborate with engineering colleagues to deliver technically and commercially viable solutions.
* Monitor system performance, conduct root cause analysis, and identify opportunities for improvement in service delivery.
* Define and oversee programmes of inspection and preventative maintenance.
* Ensure customer equipment remains safe and suitable for service.
* Coordinate with field support teams to conduct defect investigations, surveys, integration, and acceptance testing.
* Manage Integrated Logistics Support documentation and implement change requests.
* Highlight resource conflicts or constraints to engineering management.
* Produce estimates for new engineering work (e.g. redesign, obsolescence) and plan tasks accordingly.
* Embed best engineering practices and processes to drive excellence and continuous improvement.
* Implement obsolescence strategies for product lines.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
* Degree or higher diploma in Engineering or related field (relevant experience will be considered in place of formal qualifications).
* Electrical engineering background preferred.
* Experience in Defence engineering, particularly within Integration, Test, and In-Service phases.
* Experience in an engineering lead role within defence or in-service support is desirable.
* Proven ability to define, lead, and deliver work packages in line with customer contracts.
* Strong planning and execution skills for engineering support tasks.
* Awareness of project management principles (e.g. work packages, dependencies, risk management).
* Ability to perform under time pressure and in complex environments.
* Background with maritime equipment advantageous.
