As part of our support to our customer in the space sector we are seeking Assembly Integration and Test (AIT) Mechanical Technician Technical Leads to join on a permanent or contract basis, to grow within AIT as part of an international company expanding its space capability. The salary/rate is negotiable based on experience and seniority. The role is based at the customer’s facility in Portsmouth and will involve shift work with a premium.

This vacancy presents an exciting opportunity for ambitious individuals to develop and grow their skills within a thriving organisation. The role covers a wide range of mechanical operations/activities across assembly and integration on spacecraft payloads. While specific experience in RF/optical cable routing, and clean room experience is highly sought after, these are not strictly essential. The candidate should demonstrate experience and capability to manage a team to deliver project objectives.

Responsibilities

* Mechanical Technician Technical Leads:Manage the engineering team to ensure deliverables defined in the Statement of Work (SoW) are achieved in terms of time, cost and quality.
* Fully understand project contractual and legislative requirements and cascade these to the team.
* Integrate technical functions of the project team to meet technical requirements.
* Ensure resource capabilities and skill allocation are suitable for the project.
* Oversee and control checking of deliverables and drive continuous process improvement.
* Act as the technical focal point of the team and build strong relationships with customers.
* Collaborate with the team to identify, develop, test and deliver cost-saving initiatives.
* Ensure Task Initiation Forms are complete (technical, schedule and allocated hours) and distributed to team members where appropriate.
* Foster a positive, inclusive environment that values team skills and knowledge and promotes a culture of shared achievement.
* Conduct annual and mid-term appraisals with ongoing constructive feedback.
* Recommend training needs to Head of Business & Chief Engineers to support the project.
* Mechanical Engineering:Utilise work orders in Apriso or EWIS or paper as inputs into the mechanical assembly process.
* Oversee successful installation and integration of Kits of Parts.
* Read and understand 3D drawings and technical notes using Dragonfly or 3DXML.
* Follow procedures and documents containing engineering data (e.g., torque values) as part of the installation process.
* Be aware of COSHH and Risk Assessment documents that support Integration and Assembly activities.
* Tasks:Using customer procedures, the supplier performs:
* Complete receipt, inspection and handling of equipment to the relevant standard.
* Install and ground components/equipment, bond parts, conduct waveguide installation, coaxial cable installation and routing, thermal hardware installation and routing, DC harness routing and connection, and assemble mechanical parts as directed by the customer.
* Ensure procedures are completed and filed as per customer requirements; author reports for anomalies or deviations; ensure all work complies with relevant Quality Standards and passes quality inspections.


Qualifications

* HNC or HND in engineering/maintenance OR an Apprenticeship in Aerospace/Space or another high-quality production field.


Essential Skills

* Experience in leading engineering teams to deliver complex, multi-functional projects.
* Strong engineering background in the listed capabilities.
* Demonstrated experience in a customer-facing engineering role.


Experience

* Experience in a high-quality production environment relating to mechanical assembly.
* Experience in a clean-room environment including FOD/ESD practices.
