Are you an enthusiastic and motivated Radiographer with a passion for women’s health and high-quality care? Do you want to join a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team making a real difference to early breast cancer detection?

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Band 6 Mammographer to join our dedicated Breast Screening & Imaging Department within the Diagnostic & Support Services Division at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a fulfilling role, offering both challenge and reward, working across the Bolton, Bury & Rochdale Breast Screening Service and our Symptomatic Breast Service at Royal Bolton Hospital and community satellite sites across Greater Manchester.

About the Role

As a Mammographer, you will be responsible for delivering a high standard of mammographic imaging in line with NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) protocols and Trust policies. You will work closely with advanced and consultant mammographers, radiologists, breast care nurses, and other professionals to support screening, diagnostic, and interventional services.

You’ll perform mammography examinations using specialist techniques, assist in image-guided interventional procedures (such as core biopsies and localisations), and ensure equipment quality and compliance with safety regulations including IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR 2017.

This role is essential in supporting women during what can often be a very anxious time. Your ability to offer reassurance, maintain dignity, and work with empathy and compassion will be central to your success in this role.

What You'll Be Doing

* Perform high-quality screening and symptomatic mammography.

* Assist with interventional breast procedures under guidance of practitioners.

* Vet and justify mammography referrals.

* Participate in daily/weekly/monthly quality control testing.

* Communicate effectively with clients, including those with language barriers or additional needs.

* Provide mentorship and support to assistant practitioners, students, and less experienced colleagues.

* Ensure infection prevention and a safe working environment is maintained.

* Contribute to service audits, peer reviews, and continuous quality improvement.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

* BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or DCR (Diagnostic)

* HCPC Registered Radiographer

* Evidence of CPD and willingness to engage in ongoing development

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

* Good decision-making ability with a focus on patient care

* Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

* Postgraduate Certificate in Mammography or willingness to complete it

* Experience in a breast screening or symptomatic imaging setting

* Knowledge of NHSBSP guidelines and quality assurance processes

* Awareness of current developments in breast imaging and audit participation

Additional Requirements

* You must hold or be willing to obtain valid professional indemnity insurance.

* Flexibility to work at satellite clinics and additional hours when required.

* Ability to manage physical demands of mammography and emotional support aspects of the role.

* Participation in all mandatory training and safeguarding practices
