Role Overview:
Morgan Philips Specialist Recruitment is presently representing a multinational, world leading service company operating within the energy industry in their search for an In-House Construction Counsel.
This is a hybrid position, based from our client’s offices in Central London and with the requirement for the successful candidate to be present at their operational site in West Cheshire either one day per week or two days every other week.
Joining the business on an initial 2-year fixed term contract and reporting to the Head of Legal based in the UK, this crucial role requires a high calibre legal professional with strong construction experience. Our client is undertaking an extensive capacity expansion program across their operational sites, and the post holder will primarily support these activities as part of the Group Legal team.
This will include providing strategic legal advice in relation to the capacity expansion program, project and contract structuring, and risk management throughout the lifecycle of construction activities. The candidate will be responsible for supporting certain tender activities, drafting and negotiating design and construction contracts, including FEED, EPC and EPCM, and managing contentious construction matters. The candidate will mostly support projects in the UK but may also support projects in the US and in Europe. You will work closely with Group Projects, local sites and key stakeholders to provide timely advice and guidance on relevant matters.

Key Accountabilities:
* Provide strategic legal advice for company construction and capacity expansion activities, including project and contract structuring.
* Draft and negotiate design and construction contracts, including FEED, EPC and EPCM, for projects in the UK, US and Europe. Contracts may be based on industry standard forms (including IChemE or NEC) or bespoke.
* Become a trusted advisor to Group Projects, local sites and other key stakeholders in respect of construction matters and fully integrated into company capacity expansion activities.
* Provide timely professional advice, challenge and guidance in respect of construction contract risks to safeguard company interests and support delivery of capacity expansion objectives.
* Be an active part of a high performing, respected legal team delivering added value legal services, advice and guidance to the Group to enhance and protect the interest of the business.
* Support development of legal strategies and policies for the Group and operations.
* Ensure the business is compliant with legal regulatory requirements and standards to safeguard the business and support decision making.
* Produce accurate and timely legal reports to the Head of Legal.
About You:
* A UK qualified lawyer with significant experience of construction law matters, gained either in house or in private practice
* High level of technical capability.
* A strong understanding of industry standard construction contracts.
* Good understanding of contract law in multinational jurisdictions.
* Knowledge of capital intensive industries.
* Knowledge and experience in regulated industries with emphasis on technology and energy.
* Technical and practical knowledge of legal services in an international setting beneficial.
