Permanant Section 117 Mental Health Social Worker Location: Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council – Greater Manchester Collaboration Salary: £39,862 - £45,091 per annum (SCP 29-34) Contract: Permanent, Full-Time Make a Difference in Mental Health Social Care Tameside Adult Social Care is looking for an experienced and motivated Mental Health Social Worker to take a leading role in delivering high-quality Section 117 aftercare services. Working within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment, you will play a key role in ensuring individuals receive effective support, timely reviews, and opportunities for successful community integration in line with the Care Act 2014 and Mental Health Act 1983. About the Role As the dedicated Section 117 Mental Health Social Worker, you will: Lead and complete Care Act reviews for individuals receiving Section 117 aftercare across a range of community and residential settings. Deliver effective care management through regular reviews, ongoing support, and monitoring of Section 117 eligibility. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and care documentation using the LAS case management system. Support hospital discharges through collaborative planning and funding arrangements with health partners, including attendance at discharge planning meetings. Promote independence and recovery through strengths-based approaches and community-focused support planning. Review eligibility and reassess needs, including managing appropriate discharges from Section 117 in partnership with the Integrated Care Board (ICB). Work closely within multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) and maintain knowledge of current funding arrangements and protocols. Provide expert advice, guidance, and training to colleagues regarding Section 117 responsibilities and best practice. Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and integrated approaches to Section 117 aftercare. About You To be successful in this role, you will have: Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England. A minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience in social work. Demonstrable experience managing Section 117 responsibilities within mental health services. Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983, and safeguarding legislation. Excellent communication, organisational, and partnership-working skills. A commitment to person-centred, strengths-based practice and achieving positive outcomes for service users. Salary & Benefits Salary Scale (SCP 29-34): SCP 29 - £39,862 SCP 30 - £40,777 SCP 31 - £41,771 SCP 32 - £42,839 SCP 33 - £44,075 SCP 34 - £45,091 Annual Leave Entitlement Grade G-N (including this role): Under 10 years' service: 28 days annual leave 10 years' service: 31 days annual leave AMHP Opportunities Qualified and warranted Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) receive: Additional payment of £82 per AMHP shift Typically 25-30 shifts available per year For candidates who are not currently AMHP qualified, support and training opportunities are available to achieve AMHP status in the future. Working Pattern Full-time position, Monday to Friday: Monday: 8:30am - 5:00pm Tuesday: 8:30am - 5:00pm Wednesday: 8:30am - 5:00pm Thursday: 8:30am - 4:30pm Friday: 8:30am - 4:00pm Occasional Saturday working may be required.
