Due to organisational growth, ELM Alliance has vacancies for experienced Clinical Health Care Assistants to work in our Extended Access service on evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. Applicants with experience solely in domiciliary care or care homes are unlikely to be suitable unless they have prior primary care experience and relevant skills.
As part of the clinical team, the role involves:
1. Providing phlebotomy in accordance with current guidelines and local protocols.
2. Recording ECGs.
3. Monitoring blood pressure.
4. Managing wounds and removing sutures or stitches.
5. Performing urinalysis.
6. Understanding QOF and IIF, and how Primary Care and General Practice operate.
7. Referring patients to other clinicians as necessary.
8. Providing routine clinical care to patients under supervision of the Treatment Room Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or GP.
Essential experience includes primary care and working in a GP practice. The successful candidate will work across Redcar, East Cleveland, and Middlesbrough sites.
Main duties include:
1. Understanding principles of healthy living and providing health promotion literature.
2. Collecting patient data such as blood pressure, height, weight, and ECGs, following practice protocols and operating equipment competently.
3. Accurately recording data in electronic patient records.
4. Providing wound care, packing, dressing, and removing sutures/stitches.
5. Summarising patient notes and assisting with administrative tasks.
6. Supporting smoking cessation initiatives.
7. Running blood pressure and ECG clinics.
8. Preparing consultation rooms, maintaining stock levels, and ensuring cleanliness.
9. Monitoring and ordering clinical supplies.
10. Handling specimens for pathology collection.
11. Assisting in the storage of drugs and vaccines under supervision.
12. Conducting monthly checks on emergency trolley, defibrillator, and oxygen supplies, and performing weekly cleaning.
The Healthcare Assistant will collaborate closely with the ELM Service team, management, and external partners to deliver services effectively, timely, and within budget.
The South Tees area includes 46 practices serving approximately 290,000 residents, including some of the most deprived regions, with high emergency and hospital admission rates.
