Overview
We are looking for a 0.8wte Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work in our existing stroke team. You will be responsible for providing assessment, treatment and evaluation to patients on the acute stroke wards at Colchester Hospital.
The stroke team delivers stroke rehabilitation as part of 7-day working. We are ESNEFT and we provide hospital and community health services to almost one million people across east Suffolk and north Essex.
Responsibilities
* Develop neurological expertise within the team as a member of the Specialist Stroke Team providing care to patients who have had a recent stroke.
* Be an autonomous professional practitioner working without the need for direct supervision.
* Carry out appraisals and clinical supervision for more junior members of the team.
* Act as a clinical educator to students on placement with the team.
* Able to delegate work appropriately and manage assistant practitioners and therapy assistants within the team.
* Prioritise referrals and workload in a timely, efficient manner.
* Practice in accordance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists rules of Professional Conduct and Standards of OT, and the Health Professions Council's regulations.
* Perform Occupational Therapy assessments of patients with diverse presentations and complex conditions to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
* Consolidate prior knowledge and ensure continued development of a broad range of clinical skills in rehabilitation.
* Supervise therapy assistants within the team and deliver training where appropriate and required.
* Supervise, educate and assess the performance of OT students.
Qualifications and requirements
* Current registered Occupational Therapist with the appropriate professional body.
* Experience as a Band 6 OT, with a focus on stroke rehabilitation.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience in supervision, education of students, and delegation of tasks to support staff.
* Commitment to 7-day working for stroke rehabilitation as part of the team.
