Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nursing Support Worker in the Day Surgery Unit of Withybush General Hospital.
This is a part-time post of 30 hours.
This role will involve:
* Working as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients with support and supervision provided by a registered health care professional.
* Undertaking personal care activities and clinical care duties with minimal support and supervision as delegated by a registered healthcare professional in accordance with the HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
* Ensuring the registered healthcare professional is regularly updated on the patient’s condition and progress.
* Ensuring the working environment is safe and hygienic following infection prevention and control policies and processes.
* Contributing to the teaching and supervision of students and junior staff.
* Delivering the role in accordance with Health Board/Trust Values and Code of Conduct for HCSW's in Wales.
* The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
* Work within established procedures when delivering care and under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional.
* Undertake care as directed by the registered healthcare professional, providing personal care to patients/clients, including use of hoists, wheelchairs or other mobility aids.
* Undertake and record physiological measurements such as temperature, manual blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation.
* Undertake point of care testing, e.g., carrying out urinalysis and escalating abnormalities, recording blood glucose.
* Escort patients to other departments under the delegation of a registered healthcare professional.
* Act as a chaperone when appropriate, supporting and preparing patients for medical interventions or procedures.
* Ensure the safety of patients/clients requiring increased supervision, e.g., patients at risk of falls, those with memory impairment.
* Maintain adequate levels of stock.
* Maintain general household cleaning area and equipment.
* Communicate clearly and effectively, accepting instructions and giving feedback on patient care to relevant registered health care professionals.
* Respond appropriately to routine queries, take phone messages and pass on written and verbal information to patients and staff in a timely manner.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge (Essential)
* Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject or equivalent experience, with evidence of work‑based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role, gained through experience and work‑based training/short courses.
* Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW).
* Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting, e.g., the principles of safeguarding adults/children to keep patients in their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
Experience (Essential)
* Experience of working within a relevant health or social care environment, providing direct patient care.
Desirable
* Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice.
* Experience of working within the NHS.
Language Skills (Desirable)
* Welsh Speaker (Level 1).
