We are looking for an experienced Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join our Eating Disorders Outpatients and Day Service at Middle House, Maudsley Hospital.
The post holder will deliver high‑quality, recovery‑focused care to adults with eating disorders through assessment, care planning and delivery of evidence‑based interventions within a multidisciplinary team. A core element of the role is physical health monitoring, including interpreting observations, identifying medical risk and working closely with medical colleagues to ensure safe, coordinated care.
You will hold a small caseload, contribute to structured therapeutic groups, and provide clinical leadership to support continuity of care, reduce inpatient admissions and promote positive outcomes for service users.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide high‑quality, recovery‑focused nursing care to adults with eating disorders across outpatient, day service and ETT pathways. This includes mental and physical health assessment and monitoring, identification and escalation of medical risk, and close multidisciplinary working to ensure safe, coordinated care. The role involves managing a defined caseload, supporting care planning, review and discharge processes, and contributing to the delivery of structured therapeutic groups across patient pathways, with flexibility to provide cross‑cover and support across services as required. Education
Essential criteria
1. Registered Mental Health Nurse with current registration on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
2. Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to mental health nursing practice (e.g. training, post‑registration learning or specialist development).
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
3. Relevant post‑registration mental health nursing experience in community, outpatient or inpatient settings
4. Experience working with eating disorders and/or complex mental health presentations, including meal support, risk assessment and care planning
5. Experience of physical health monitoring and risk management with appropriate escalation
6. Knowledge of safeguarding principles and clinical governance, including adult and child safeguarding and audit
7. Experience/willingness to facilitate or co‑facilitate therapeutic groups across eating disorder pathways
Skills and abilities
Essential criteria
8. Strong physical health monitoring skills, including recognising deterioration and escalating medical risk appropriately
9. Ability to provide meal support and contribute to the delivery of structured therapeutic groups.
10. Effective risk assessment and clinical decision‑making skills within scope of practice.
11. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with service users, carers and MDT colleagues, both verbally and in writing
12. Ability to manage workload, work autonomously, and contribute positively to a multidisciplinary team.
