Overview
As a Security Officer, you will:
* Ensure site safety and security - Protect Defence personnel, visitors, and property.
* Conduct patrols - Monitor designated areas on foot or by vehicle, ensuring compliance with security protocols.
* Control access - Check credentials, issue passes, and escort visitors as required.
* Perform searches - Conduct thorough security checks on vehicles, baggage, and personnel.
* Respond to incidents - Identify risks, manage security breaches, and escalate as needed.
* Assist employees and visitors - Provide professional and courteous support on-site.
* Monitor security systems - Operate CCTV, alarms, and communication devices.
* Manage traffic and parking - Control vehicle movement and ensure safe site access.
* Report and document - Maintain security logs and complete detailed incident reports.

Experience and medical checks are part of the process. At application stage you will be assessed against Experience (CV including Job History and Previous Skills). At interview you will be assessed against Behaviours listed above. MGS applicants are required to attend an MGS Security Officer Medical Check.
Licences
* Full UK Driving Licence (must be held at point of application and be in date).
Additional Requirements
* The Ministry of Defence adopts a zero-tolerance approach to unacceptable behaviours. You will not be eligible if you have been dismissed for such behaviours within the last five years. Pre-employment checks will be carried out.
* Application sifting is scheduled to take place on week commencing 29/09/2025. Interviews are due to take place via Microsoft Teams week commencing 13/10/2025.
* We may hold candidates on an active reserve list for 12 months and may offer similar lower graded roles to reserve candidates.
* Immigration sponsorship: The MOD will only offer sponsorship for a skilled worker visa when a role is business critical. This role has not been deemed business critical and is not open to sponsorship applicants.
* Candidates must declare any outside interests; such declarations will be discussed before a formal offer of employment.
Security and Vetting
* Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check and meet security requirements before appointment (security check).
* See the vetting charter. Baseline personnel security standard checks apply to those working with government assets.
* Nationality requirements include UK nationals, certain Irish and Commonwealth nationals, EU/EEA/Swiss nationals with settled status or valid application status, and other listed categories.

Role Requirements and Benefits
* This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, resilience, vigilance, and good physical fitness for standing, patrolling, and rapid incident response.
* A background in administration and strong IT skills (including Microsoft Office and electronic booking-in systems) is beneficial.
* The MOD Guard Service operates at over 170 MOD sites nationwide and offers a range of benefits, including a Civil Service pension, annual leave, special leave, and employee support programs. Some sites have travel links, parking, gyms, and shops.
Shift Pattern & Training
* This is a shift work position at 48 hours per week, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays as required by site pattern. Shifts are 12 hours, rostered Sun-Sat with potential short-notice changes.
* New starters complete a two-week residential Foundation Course, followed by on-the-job training and ongoing development, including online learning.
