Job summary
Teesside Hospice, a highly regarded organisation operating across South Tees, Cleveland, and North Yorkshire, is seeking a Director of Clinical Development. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Director of Nursing and Quality, your role will be to lead the expansion of the hospice's services into community settings, while exploring opportunities to commercialise existing services and maximise opportunities arising from NHS strategy development.
Our Clinical Team currently provides hospice care in the onsite In-Patient Unit, our Lymphoedema clinic, Wellbeing, and Bereavement Support hubs. We aim to extend these services into the community to be delivered closer to where our beneficiaries live.
We require an individual ambitious to meet community needs, with experience in scoping and developing new initiatives into meaningful services. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing/commissioning health and/or social care services and possess strong influencing skills.

Main duties of the job
1. Lead the development, growth, and expansion of Teesside Hospice clinical services and new initiatives into the local community, collaborating with partners where appropriate.
2. Assess feasibility and develop plans to offer current hospice services within the community, including implementing these plans.
3. Scope, develop, and implement plans (including funding options) for a virtual ward for palliative and end-of-life care across Teesside.
4. Evaluate the potential to expand services to include frailty and/or dementia care.
5. Build on existing commercial initiatives to expand emotional support and wellbeing services to employers, generating income for the hospice.
6. Adopt an entrepreneurial approach to new funded clinical service opportunities.
7. Engage and collaborate with hospice departments and external partners to ensure efficiency and impact.
8. Ensure all developments are co-designed, and deliver goals, objectives, and targets.
9. Provide reports and updates on progress as required.
10. Work with Trustees and Senior Management to deliver corporate objectives.
11. Represent the hospice regionally and nationally, developing partnerships and sharing best practices.
12. Manage personal workload and development.
13. Undertake other duties as required by the CEO, including occasional work outside normal hours.
14. Maintain professionalism, adhere to policies, and promote the organisation's values and ethos.
Person Specification
Experience
* Knowledge of budget management and achieving outcomes.
* Understanding of national health and social care agendas, including commissioning.
* Experience in developing/commissioning health and social care services.
* Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
* Minimum 3 years as a Senior Manager in service development and project management.
* Understanding of clinical governance principles.
* Experience in innovation, service improvement, and stakeholder collaboration.
* Proficiency in business proposal writing for new services.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance.
Desirable
* Experience working with Trustees or Boards.
* Experience in a hospice or palliative care setting.
* Experience in regulated environments.
* Knowledge of local palliative care policies.
