Role: Trainee Health Screener
Location: Arden Herefordshire & Worcestershire (Malvern area)
Salary: £23,809.50 rising upon completion of your diploma

The role of a health screener involves learning and performing diabetic eye screening with on‑the‑job training, progressing to a Health Screener Diploma, and exploring career progression opportunities within Diabetic Eye Screening.
Diabetic eye screening checks for diabetic retinopathy, a condition that can lead to sight loss if untreated. The screening involves taking pictures of the back of the eyes to identify changes and any urgent referrals required.
Experience in a caring environment or hospital background is preferable but not necessary; screeners come from diverse backgrounds. If you are good with people and want to make a difference this could be the career for you.
What we offer and career progression
Starting as a screener, you will be trained on the job and will gain the skills and knowledge to complete the Health Screener Diploma. After training, there are multiple progression opportunities in Diabetic Eye Screening with salaries up to £45k:

Who are we looking for?
* Compassionate individuals who are empathetic toward patients
* Willingness to travel to screening services in the Malvern area
* Ability to take detailed/up close pictures of the eye and remain composed; full training provided
* Adaptable with the ability to think quickly and resolve problems
* Flexible in their working week; occasional evening and weekend work may be required; commitment to completing the Health Screener Diploma in the required timescale
* Aiming for a career in a care profession in their next position
* Enjoy working with the public, are caring, and have a desire to help others
* Pride in the level of customer service offered
* Full driving licence and access to a car for travel to clinics
Key duties of a Screener
* Ensure patients feel welcome and comfortable during the screening process
* Undertake the screening checklist to ensure a safe environment (for yourself and patients)
* Basic maintenance of camera and equipment to enable high‑quality images
* Safely administer eye drops to enlarge pupils and take photographs with correct field of view
* Identify patients requiring urgent onward referral at the time of screening
* Maintain sufficient stock of consumables to run the clinic
