Responsibilities
* Provide holistic women-centred midwifery care and promote midwife‑led care in partnership with other health professionals.
* Work independently as a midwife sonographer performing and reporting third‑trimester ultrasound scans, informing birthing people of findings and collaborating to provide follow‑on care.
* Act as a lead professional for other midwives and as part of a wide multi‑disciplinary team with regard to third‑trimester ultrasound scanning and growth restriction.
* Promote and maintain professional standards, ensuring midwifery and sonography practices are evidence‑based.
* Supervise and facilitate training and practical skills of trainee midwife sonographers and members of the obstetric team who are undertaking a formal ultrasound course.
* Engage with audit and disseminate findings to the wider multidisciplinary team.
* Participate in guideline development, quality improvement projects and service development.
* Support the organisation in driving transformation and value for money in planning and delivering a high‑quality service.
* Build subject‑matter expertise and technical skills to develop strong service delivery ensuring effective fetal monitoring during labour, aiming to build on current practice of achieving healthy birth outcomes for babies born in our maternity unit.
* Provide support within a 24/7 shift‑work system, with 50% clinical and 50% non‑clinical duties, and participate in the maternity escalation rota.
