Job Description
* The Legal Director is responsible for leading AGS's legal and governance framework, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, and safeguarding the organisation against legal and regulatory risks. This role provides strategic legal advice to the Board, CEO, and senior leadership, oversees corporate governance, and manages relationships with regulators and external advisors. The Legal Director also leads the development and implementation of a centralised compliance function and ensures effective board administration.
* Position carries significant leadership responsibilities for managing and developing the in‑house legal team, allocating resources to meet business priorities, and driving professional growth and succession planning. Through strong governance, compliance oversight, and legal expertise, the role supports AGS in achieving its strategic objectives while maintaining integrity and trust with stakeholders.
Principal Accountabilities
* Act as Company Secretary for AGS, taking ownership of board governance, statutory filings and shareholder administration.
* Lead compliance oversight establishing and maintaining a central compliance framework that ensures consistency across all three airports and aligns with aviation industry standards and UK regulatory requirements.
* Provide corporate legal advice mainly to the CEO, executive team, shareholders, Audit & Risk Committee and Board.
* Manage key relationships with non‑operational regulators and external law firms, ensuring AGS maintains strong compliance and legal standing within the aviation industry.
* Advise the Board, CEO and CFO on governance, fiduciary duties and director obligations.
* Key responsibility for the AGS Compliance Management System: centralise and further develop compliance function across the group, review and implement policies, and oversee regulatory horizon scanning.
* Act as liaison with regulators, external advisors, auditors and shareholders, ensuring clear and effective communication and timely resolution of compliance and governance matters.
* Lead the provision of legal advice to executives across corporate, governance and commercial topics.
* Direct line management of two existing commercial lawyers (senior and junior).
* Allocate responsibilities to ensure efficient coverage across AGS Group entities.
* Support the professional development of the legal team, provide coaching, mentoring and professional development.
* Lead recruitment, onboarding and integration of an additional junior counsel in 2026.
* Ensure that the legal team operates as a collaborative, effective in‑house function.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* UK‑qualified Solicitor or Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) professional.
* Minimum 10 years relevant legal or governance experience in a regulated sector.
* Previous senior management and team leadership experience.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills at Board level.
