Overview
Wincanton are looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join our established team at our B&Q distribution centre, in Redhouse Doncaster. The site is 850,000 sq. ft, is workplace to around 1000 colleagues.
Reporting to the General Manager, this key role supports the customer contract by integrating effectively with the senior management team onsite to ensure H&S standards & compliance is achieved and maintained through high levels of employee engagement and a strong health and safety culture.
The successful candidate will play a lead role in the continuous improvement of the Network Safety Plan that demonstrates a strong safety culture for employees, visitors, and contractors. This is a single site role.
This role is days, starting at around 7am, but with flexibility to see shift workers in a 24/7 operation.
How will you contribute?
* Manage site Health & Safety in accordance with Wincanton's Safety Health Environmental Procedures
* Ensure the site meets or exceeds the Health & Safety targets expected by Company / Client
* Manage and drive safety plans, including promoting a H&S first culture.
* Manage and maintain site training records and site training matrix
* Co-ordination of all site Health & Safety activities, including committees, training, and communications to ensure the site remains compliant.
* Assist/undertake risk assessments and create SSOWs as required.
* Using corporate IT systems to produce reports & support the delivery of Safety across the network.
* Ensure compliance when dealing with accident investigation and RIDDOR reports.
* Work in line with Company Process and Audit requirement
* Hold Health & Safety meetings and oversee First Aiders on site, again acting in accordance with site compliance and current legislation.
* Oversee safety for the Vehicle maintenance units on site.
* Management of contractors on site i.e. permit to work.
What will you bring?
* Will hold a NEBOSH Diploma or be working towards it.
* Have working knowledge of warehousing and distribution (preferred)
* Motivated manager who has the passion, ambition, and drive to make a difference to safety within the business
* Will have excellent team building, leadership, and motivational skills.
* Must demonstrate the ability to communicate and influence in an open and honest manner with colleagues at all levels within Wincanton and B&Q
* Must be able to demonstrate the commitment, enthusiasm, and flexibility to work various shift patterns.
* Excellent organisational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
* Able to provide up to date advice on Health and Safety legislation.
