Join our Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick team as a Senior Project Engineer (Electrical) at Sellafield, Seascale and you'll deliver complex work that really matters to our business, and the world around you.
Assist the Project Manager with scope definition, planning and daily execution of the construction project. Responsible for maintaining certain aspects of the project schedule and managing the process of submittal approvals, coordinating the timely delivery of materials, maintaining schedules and budgets. Responsible for all technical aspects of the project throughout the Construction phase, ranging from scope definition, design reviews, Technical Query's (TQ's) etc, looking after subcontract works on site, qualification of cable calculations, final As-Bult checks, assisting the Project Manager and ensuring the project is run safely and to programme.
What you'll be doing
* Scope definition of work packages and identification of execution strategy's.
* Ensure that packages are delivered to programme, budget, safety and quality
expectations/standards.
- Ensure accurate and complete records are kept, including RFIs, FCDs, WPPs, MCRs, ITPs, Record Drawings and other project communications/deliverables.
- Ensure that plant, access, labour and materials are planned and organised in
accordance with appropriate interfaces for the associated works, this should include any procurement activity relevant to a package.
- Concisely produce/review the WPP and ITP for construction activities.
- Produce technical input in accordance with the relevant QS, suitable for an ITT and assist with any technical queries throughout the tender process.
- Evaluate technical bids and documentation from suppliers.
- Visit suppliers and monitor their activities if required
- Experienced with preparation of cost and man-hour estimates
- Where the package of works is subcontracted, the engineer is still accountable for the package deliverables and documents.
- Carry out periodic Progress Meetings with subcontractors to ensure package specifics are managed effectively.
- Identifying risks to the Project Management team associated with the delivery of their works raising EWNs as appropriate.
- Monitor performance of supply chain against planned activities and escalate as
required to achieve planned output.
- Draft site instructions for review and issue by Project Management team including detailed descriptions of works required, location, programme impact, cost impact and reference to any client led change event.
- Provide relevant cost information to relevant QS and provide time estimates that
support the programme (where applicable). If required, undertake/support MTO of relevant package of works.
- Liaise with the Project Manager or Contract Manager to ensure they are fully aware of project progress and is notified of all financial, specification and time risks ensuring that all additional work is identified.
- Proactively assist with managing the customer relationship during delivery, including change and decision making to effectively manage expectations.
- Provides expert technical support and liaising directly with clients.
- Knowledge of British/European Standards and codes of practice including
ATEX/DSEAR.
- Carry out design reviews of power distribution and protection systems for both LV & MV.
- Experienced with selection & specification of electrical distribution & control
equipment.
- Contribute to any relevant VE (Value Engineering) process that occurs and attend
customer/internal meetings as applicable.
- Engage and support other interfacing functions; mechanical, piping and commissioning
- To direct and coordinate all project electrical engineering issues related to equipment specification, procurement, and installation design such as: Procurement strategy, preparation of specifications, selection of suppliers, technical and scope supervision of contracts, review of vendor data, verify critical calculations, factory acceptance testing.
Who we're looking for
* Previous Construction Engineering experience within the relevant industry is required.
* Ability to communicate effectively is required to manage customer relationships, in addition to planning and organisation skills to deliver operational excellence and efficiency.
* Effective leadership skills, including experience of leading teams and confidence in the ability to lead, influence and communicate with others to deliver targets are required.
* Financial awareness is required to deliver targets, with a desire to continuously
improve safety and sustainability performance.
- An appropriate and valid CSCS card is required.
- A relevant professional qualification and a relevant technical qualification are
desirable.
- Experience of Lean Construction principles and Lean practitioner training are desirable.
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
* Attend and contribute toward industry events
* Is a member of a professional engineering body i.e., IET
* Proficient on O365
* Holds a current driving licence
The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:
- Formal qualification (BSc/MSc) in Engineering/Construction or experience equivalent
- APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ
- CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent
- CCNSG / HS&E MAPS (Health, Safety & Environmental Test for Managers)
