Advert EDUCATION, COMMUNITIES AND HOUSING Papdale House Support for Learning Teacher (0.6 FTE) Temporary up to 16 August 2026 A vacancy has arisen for a committed and experienced Teacher within the Support for Learning and Inclusion Team. The Pupil Support team includes Support for Learning Teachers and Support Staff who consult with staff in educational establishments to ensure the Additional Support Needs of pupils are met. In addition to the five core functions of a Support for Learning Teacher, staff in this team have a range of areas of specialist interest in ASL. 1. Consultation with colleagues, external agencies, parents. 2. Planning learning and teaching to aid overcoming learning barriers. 3. Identification and assessment of barriers to learning. 4. Partnership collaborating with specialist services. 5. Continuing professional development and sharing expertise. At a universal level, the team work to support pupils in mainstream settings. At a targeted level, the team support pupils to enable the maximal engagement of young people in the inclusive learning environment that the setting provides. At a multi-agency level, the team work with agencies involved, to support and facilitate children and young people’s engagement, attendance, and attainment. As a member of the Support for Learning and Inclusion Team the post holder will collaborate with colleagues to provide education opportunities for children and young people across both mainstream and alternative settings. This position is part of the alternative education provision of the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) team and the postholder will be based at Papdale House, Kirkwall, reporting to the Principal Teacher, Support for Learning and Inclusion. As part of the team, the postholder will create, deliver, track, and monitor the progress of learners ensuring targeted learning opportunities to meet the diverse needs of young people. This will enable them to: • Attend school and engage with education. • Build self-esteem and confidence. • Develop life skills and resilience. • Articulate their perspective. • Achieve positive post-school outcomes. This is a key role in the Support for Learning and Inclusion team, collaborating with colleagues in supporting children and young people in alternative education and includes work with children and young people, families and carers and engaging with services.
