Peer Support Worker
Location: Primarily community based within the Stockport borough – with some attendance at SPARC office
Hours: 30 hours per week, flexible working Monday to Friday (supporting a healthy work life balance).
Salary: £25,974 FTE (pro rata: £21,060)
We're looking for highly motivated, compassionate and skilled Peer Support Workers with lived experience of mental health challenges to join our supportive team in Stockport. Your personal journey will help you build genuine connections and provide hope, motivation, and practical support to people on their recovery pathways.
Reporting directly into SPARC's Manager, this is an exciting opportunity to provide person‑centred support to individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. Working collaboratively with individuals, their families, and community and statutory services, you will use your lived experience to help people identify their strengths, build resilience, and stay well and connected within their communities.

It aims to foster healthier, happier, and fairer communities by growing opportunities for everyone to live well. This role is funded through the Living Well Collaborative, reflecting a commitment to integrated, person-centred support within the community.
What You'll Do
* Provide peer support using your own lived experience in a safe, boundaried and recovery‑focused way
* Encourage confidence, independence and positive coping strategies
* Support service users to access appointments, activities and community resources
* Help people build healthier relationships and social connections
* Share information about relevant services and assist with referrals
* Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively within the team
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers and partner organisations
* Promote wellbeing, inclusion and anti‑stigma practices
* Participate in supervision, team meetings and ongoing training
What We're Looking For
* Lived experience of mental health challenges (this is essential - as a core function of the post is to use shared experience and mutual understanding to support others).
* Ability to use personal experience to support others appropriately
* Empathy, good communication skills and reliability
* Commitment to recovery‑focused, strengths‑based working
* A team player willing to work across community settings
* Car driver with access to own vehicle is preferred as this role will involve travel across the Stockport borough
