If so, we have a great opportunity for you to join our Trade Effluent team (based in Bath) as a Trade Effluent Officer covering the Bristol area.

This position is a seven-month fixed-term contract.

What you'll do

Our team works with hundreds of businesses to ensure their industrial wastewater meets regulatory standards before entering our sewer network. This critical work protects our infrastructure and the environment.

Your role will be instrumental in managing relationships with 200+ businesses in Bristol, issuing consents and managing breaches under the provisions of the Water Industry Act 1991.

5. assess risk and issue permits for industrial wastewater discharges
6. lead and support investigations for illegal discharges and incidents
7. collaborate with multiple teams and disciplines across Wessex Water.

What you'll need

Ideally, you will have a degree qualification or equivalent in a science or engineering-based subject. Preferably, you will understand wastewater treatment or industrial production processes.

You will also need:

8. excellent communication skills to build relationships with businesses and explain technical/legal requirements clearly
9. to be accurate and have a good attention to detail, as you will be analysing data
10. good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
11. to enjoy working in a team environment
12. be able to work independently and take ownership of multiple projects
13. a full driving licence as you will make site visits and attend meetings at external companies.

Experience liaising with customers and/or applying environmental legislation would be an advantage, although training will be provided.

What you'll receive

14. A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
15. Career progression and professional development opportunities.
16. 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
17. The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
