Main duties of the job
The role involves handling patient enquiries by phone and in person, booking appointments, arranging tests, managing repeat prescriptions, and providing general administrative support to doctors, nurses, and other staff. The successful candidate will also perform data entry, file management, faxing, scanning, and maintain a tidy reception area.
Responsibilities
* Welcome and triage patients in person and by phone.
* Book appointments and arrange tests or specialist referrals.
* Process repeat prescriptions and update patient records.
* Maintain and update electronic and paper records, including scanning and filing.
* Provide efficient telephone service and manage the call queue.
* Ensure the reception area is tidy, secure, and fully stocked.
* Carry out general administrative duties requested by management.
* Assist with data entry, patient registration, and change of details.
* Support the prescription line and other clinical documentation tasks.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 2 or higher in Customer Service or Business Administration.
* Three GCSEs at grade C or above.
* Computer certificate or equivalent IT skills.
* Experience with Microsoft Office and practice software (SystmOne preferred).
Experience
Experience working with the general public, preferably in a primary health environment, and a proven record of delivering high‑quality customer service.
