Overview

JOB TITLE: Emergency Response Support Worker (Carers Emergency Response Service)

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Fixed Term Maternity Cover (37 hour contract)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior CERS Officer/CERS Manager

SALARY/RATE: £12.74 per hour (Plus additional payments for standby)

Location: Head Office location – Pinewood, Bell Heath Way, Woodgate Business Park, Birmingham, B32 3BZ

Summary: The Emergency Response Support Worker is accountable for the provision of emergency care and support services as well as pre-planned appointments, as required by the clients of CERS.


Responsibilities

* Provide emergency and pre-planned care and support services in line with client Care & Support Plans and Risk Assessments.
* Respond to emergency call outs on a rota basis, in accordance with Midland Mencap’s policies and procedures.
* Remain available to respond to emergencies as required by the CERS service.
* Maintain contact with the On-Call Service to report concerns.
* Receive and attend to emergency calls on a rota basis; attend to clients’ emergency needs in a timely manner.
* Liaise with other professionals to signpost to relevant services.
* Complete initial assessments and ongoing reviews of care and support plans and risk assessments to produce an Emergency Care & Support Plan if needed.
* Undertake duties consistent with the objectives of the post as required by the Manager.
* Ensure compliance with Midland Mencap policies and procedures related to domiciliary care services.
* Complete all documentation as required and provide timely, accurate reports on client services as required by management.
* Attend staff meetings, training and appraisal sessions; maintain client confidentiality.
* Deal with telephone enquiries; basic experience in the use of computers and IT equipment.

Special Conditions

* Role operates 365 days per year; may require working outside normal hours (8.30am–5pm) on a rota basis including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays to meet client needs.
* Work under the direction of the Senior CERS Officer and accommodate reasonable requests related to client amenity and security.
* Provide own reliable transport to shifts.
* Abstain from alcohol or illegal drugs during shifts; avoid intoxication or impairment.
* Do not leave a client unattended unless requested by the CERS Manager/On-Call.
* Undertake relevant training; comply with Equal Opportunities Policy.
* Do not smoke during shifts.
* This job is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
* Enhanced Disclosure with the Criminal Records Bureau, POCA and POVA checks required; applicant covers the cost.


Experience, Skills & Qualifications

* Experience: Desirable – practical experience in the delivery of personal care.
* Essential skills & ability: Verbal and written communication; organisational skills including record keeping; ability to work independently and in a team; ability to provide sensitive and appropriate personal care to men, women and children; awareness and willingness to meet needs of people from different religious and cultural backgrounds; non-judgemental service delivery; basic experience in computer use.
* Training: Essential – willingness to undergo training; NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care.
* Education/Qualifications: Current Driver’s Licence essential with own vehicle and business cover insurance.
