Responsibilities
1. Efficiently manage all commercial aspects of the portfolio of projects and maintain regular liaison with all stakeholders.
2. Manage recruitment, staffing structure, and utilization for direct reports.
3. Build team, develop personal plans, establish objectives/targets, and monitor performance.
4. Delegate appropriate work to staff while maintaining accountability.
5. Encourage a culture of contractual and commercial awareness on all projects.
6. Assist with training of Commercial Practitioners, including mentoring roles for staff undertaking APC or similar.
7. Ensure site teams adhere to group procedures and governance.
8. Lead regular team meetings.
9. Contribute to the business plan and strategy development.
10. Analyze and challenge Cost/Value Reports and forecasts, then implement actions.
11. Design and implement a commercial strategy for the portfolio and tenders with managerial support.
12. Ensure correct administration of contracts by Commercial Practitioners, and manage risks and opportunities.
13. Review contractual obligations and risks before tender submissions.
14. Maximize cash position, control WIP, and improve cash flow.
15. Identify and advise on insurance-related issues, including PI.
16. Ensure margin improvement plans are in place for each project.
17. Support work-winning activities, including client engagement and presentations.
18. Develop JV agreements and manage procurement of PCGs, bonds, and warranties.
19. Negotiate contracts and highlight business risks.
20. Optimize team performance, resource forecasting, and margin gains.
21. Handle client disputes outside of contractual scope.
22. Monitor project costs monthly through detailed forecasts.
23. Assist the Commercial Director in other tasks, including emergency support.
24. Attend client engagement events for feedback and pipeline development.
25. Contribute to the development and implementation of new Group Commercial Procedures and conduct audits.
Qualifications
* HND/Degree qualification.
* Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS) or equivalent.
* Proven experience in a commercial role within the construction industry.
* Expertise in Standard Forms of Contract and Measurement.
* Knowledge of programming techniques and project controls.
* Leadership skills.
* Strong computer skills in MS Office applications.
