Offer description

Position: Port Service Operative (Tug Driver/Stevedore)
Location: Belfast
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: £32,811 / €37,696.56

About the Role

We are recruiting Port Service Operatives to join a leading transport and logistics provider within a busy port environment. This is a hands-on operational role involving tug driving, stevedoring and general port operations.

You will work as part of a team to ensure vessels are safely and efficiently loaded, discharged and serviced. Whether your background is in farming, HGV driving, heavy machinery or port operations, this role offers stability, structured working patterns, concessionary travel benefits and long-term career opportunities. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

Safety First: Always prioritise safety, record near misses, and contribute to a strong safety culture.

Tug Operations: Safely operate Tugmasters to transfer trailers on and off vessels (training provided).

Stevedoring: Load and discharge unaccompanied freight, cars and other cargo whilst maintaining vessel schedules and minimising damage.

Vessel & Port Services: Assist with mooring, marshalling, operating linkspans/ramps, and supporting vessel turnaround.

Customer Service: Provide professional, reliable and welcoming service to freight and travel customers.

Equipment & Facilities: Operate Forklifts, Reach Stackers, Trucks or Coaches as required. Maintain and report on port equipment and tools.

Collaboration: Work with colleagues, customers and authorities (customs, police, fire brigade) to ensure smooth port operations.

General Duties: Assist with cleaning, trade car deliveries, first aid support and upkeep of port areas.

Digital Tools: Use company IT systems and digital tools (such as tablets in Tugmasters, reporting systems, Crew Connect Zone).

Meetings & Training: Actively participate in safety briefs, team meetings and ongoing training (e.g. Seably e-learning).

Working Pattern

40 hours per week on a two-week rolling rota (7 days worked in 14).

Combination of straight and split shifts (e.g. 04:30-10:30 with a return block later in the day).

Flexibility is essential due to the dynamic nature of port operations.

Shifts are structured to provide predictability and balance.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking reliable, proactive team players who thrive in a fast-paced environment. You should:

Stay calm under pressure whilst maintaining high safety and service standards.

Follow structured processes and be open to training on new equipment.

Live within commuting distance of Belfast.

Be aged 21 or over (for insurance purposes).
