Overview
Healthcare Support Worker – Cheetham Hill. Cheetham Hill is a welcoming 28-bedded ward, treating acute and medically ill older adults with high standards of care. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that supports nursing staff to improve, maintain and deliver high standards of care, promoting the health and well-being of patients through assessment, treatment and rehabilitation. You will have a voice in the Healthcare Support Worker Council and be involved in care planning and delivery.
Responsibilities
* Undertake direct patient care, in support of, and under the delegation of the Registered Nurse, and document care given as required.
* Assist in the reception and admission of patients.
* Follow the individual plan of care for each patient when undertaking duties including bed making and assisting with personal hygiene (hair, nails, oral hygiene and shaving).
* Assist with treatment and prevention of pressure areas and continence management for all patients; assist with elimination requirements, including catheter care.
* Assist patients to rehabilitate, working with physiotherapy and occupational therapists.
* Assist patients with choosing and recording intake of meals; feed patients and encourage fluid intake; replenish water and maintain fluid balance charts as required.
* Check controlled drugs with the Registered Nurse as required; complete nutritional assessment records and weigh patients as required; monitor and maintain fluid balance records, food and weight charts under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
* Use equipment competently following training; escort patients to other departments/hospitals for investigation; collect specimens for ward/laboratory investigation in accordance with Policies and Procedures.
* Following training and assessment, assist the Registered Nurse in other duties where appropriate (e.g., simple dressings, assistance with out-patient clinics, routine specimens and urine testing, taking and recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation levels, blood glucose monitoring, venepuncture and cannulation, basic life support).
* Take part in ward/unit meetings and communicate appropriately with staff, patients and visitors; recognise and respond to situations and report to the nurse in charge; participate in risk assessments.
Qualifications/Experience
* Experience in a healthcare support role (preferred).
* Good communication and teamwork skills; able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to follow care plans and documentation requirements accurately.
