Distillery Maintenance Engineer
Benbecula Distillery was the first Distillery in Benbecula Opening in 2024. As we move into our second year, we now have a requirement for a full-time dedicated engineer for the distillery site.
A maintenance engineer in a distillery is responsible for maintaining and optimising the mechanical and electrical systems used in the production of distilled whisky. They play a crucial role in the operational performance of the site and work closely with other trades and production personnel to maximise efficiency of operational assets across the site. The role involves providing emergency response to plant breakdowns, analysis, fault finding and repair, using root cause problem solving techniques, to ensure downtime is kept to a minimum.
The responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):
* Carry out mechanical and electrical planned maintenance tasks in line with current schedules
* Plan and organise follow up work derived from planned maintenance checks
* Carry out planned calibration checks and portable appliance testing
* Attend to electrical and mechanical and plant breakdowns
* Co-ordinate any follow-on activities between shifts leaving clear instructions
* Identifying spare part requirements
* Carry out minor project work e.g. building rewiring, new equipment installations, process and asset movements, machine upgrades, CCTV installations, energy management etc
* Recommend and implement improvements to assets, plant and buildings in order to achieve gains in safety, quality, productivity and reductions in cost
* To ensure their own health, safety and welfare and the safety of all other persons who may be affected by their activities
* To comply with all health and safety procedures and regulations laid down by the company and to demonstrate a commitment to health and safety
* Aware of the company requirements for the protection of the environment in their workplace and any areas that may be affected by their activities, to follow company procedures and participate in making environmental improvements
Maintenance Engineer Specification:
* Right to live and work in the UK
* Time Served Apprenticeship in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent
* Level 3 Qualification in Electrical or equivalent
* Must not be colour blind
* Previous experience in Electrical Maintenance
* Previous experience in Mechanical Maintenance
* previous experience in Boiler Maintenance (BOAS accreditation preferred, but training can be provided)
* IT Skills
* Knowledge of hydraulics
* Knowledge of pneumatics
* Understanding of basic machinery safety
* Knowledge of abrasive wheel regulations
This role will be worked over a 40-hour week, normally Mon – Fri, but also covering callouts as required by the business.
