Position

We are looking for a new senior team member to join the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), providing a commercial perspective across the Development and Innovation Directorate and beyond. Working with others, the role holder will be responsible for strengthening commercial performance, financial sustainability and data‑informed decision making across the Institution’s income and surplus‑generating activities.

More specifically, the postholder will develop, refine and oversee effective commercial models across a diverse portfolio of activities, including training courses, conferences and events, and publications spanning both academic and industry audiences. They will ensure IChemE has access to appropriate data and information to help drive effectiveness of such activities in all their forms. This will include facilitating clear oversight of income, costs, surplus, pricing assumptions and key commercial relationships, while using financial and non‑financial data to support day‑to‑day and strategic decision making.

Commercial models

* Shape and refine the commercial model for existing activities across the Development and Innovation portfolio, including identifying opportunities to increase income and strengthen long‑term sustainability within existing activities.
* Develop new commercial models for new activities, including assessing income potential, cost assumptions, delivery models, partner or subcontractor requirements, and overall viability.

Commercial operational oversight

* Maintain oversight of the key commercial elements of activities across the Development and Innovation portfolio, including projected income, costs, surplus, pricing assumptions and supplier/partner/subcontractor relationships. This includes, but is not limited to, activities such as training courses, conferences and events, academic journals, industry publications and The Chemical Engineer magazine.

Data

* Use data as an enabler to monitor commercial performance, including marketing and pipeline data, to support timely and well‑informed decision‑making.
* Ensure relevant data is accurate, up to date, accessible and shared appropriately with colleagues, enabling clear visibility of matters such as booking pipelines, product performance, demand trends and growth opportunities across subject areas.

Leadership and management

* Build effective relationships internally and externally to identify, assess and capitalise on opportunities to increase income, profitability and impact. This includes opportunities arising through external partnerships, supplier and subcontractor relationships, and internal collaboration across IChemE.
* Foster a culture of creativity, problem‑solving, and continuous improvement. Being the ‘commercial voice’ in conversations with colleagues.
* Provide effective line management.

The position is based in the UK with flexible working arrangements, meaning you will usually be working three days from the Rugby office and the remainder from home.

Only candidates eligible to work in the UK will be considered.
