Job Title: SEN Teaching AssistantLocation: Macclesfield, CheshireStart Date: After May Half-Term (June 2026)Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary (Until Christmas 2026, with potential extension)Salary: Competitive, dependent on experienceAbout the RoleA supportive and well-established SEN school in Macclesfield is seeking a caring and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team after the May half-term, with the role initially running until Christmas and the potential for extension. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in a specialist setting, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs in a structured, nurturing environment.The school caters for children and young people with a variety of special educational needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to provide tailored support that enables pupils to access learning, build confidence, and develop key life skills.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of SEN needsAssist in implementing personalised learning plans and interventionsSupport pupils' academic, social, and emotional developmentFoster a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environmentUse appropriate behaviour management strategies in line with school policiesSupport communication and interaction using tools such as visual aids, PECS, or Makaton (where appropriate)Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external professionalsMonitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staffAssist with personal care where required (training provided if needed)Ensure safeguarding procedures and policies are followed at all timesCandidate RequirementsPrevious experience working with children or young people with SEN (in school or similar settings)A patient, empathetic, and resilient attitudeStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to build positive and trusting relationships with pupilsUnderstanding of SEN, particularly ASC, SEMH, or communication needsAbility to remain calm and adaptable in a fast-paced environmentA genuine passion for supporting students with additional needsDesirable Skills and ExperienceExperience within an SEN or specialist school settingKnowledge of behaviour management approaches (e.g., Team Teach)Experience supporting non-verbal pupils or communication strategiesRelevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or similar)What the School OffersA welcoming and friendly team environmentStrong leadership and ongoing staff supportOpportunities for professional development and SEN trainingA highly rewarding role with the chance to make a meaningful impactPotential for the role to be extended beyond ChristmasAll applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
