Overview

Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high-quality services to our communities, residents and businesses. We strive to employ and retain talented and dedicated people.

Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a district with thriving market towns and attractive villages. We are an innovative local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.

At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our purpose of putting our customers first.

Role details

Here at HDC we are passionate about the front-line services we deliver, and the Technician is a crucial role in that delivery. We are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work in our Workshop department. We are committed to delivering the best service possible for our residents and we want you to be part of that effort.

The role is based in our Operations team as a Technician responsible for maintenance and repairs on vehicles, plant and equipment to ensure they meet the Department for Transport MOT Test standards.

Your work will contribute to the efficiency of our operations, enabling us to provide essential services to the community. You will inspect, diagnose and repair equipment while adhering to safety standards and regulations, and you will work closely with the Workshop Manager to ensure work is completed to a high standard.

* Operating hours: 6am to 5pm
* Location: Huntingdonshire district facilities

About you

You are a dedicated professional with substantial experience in commercial vehicle repair and a strong understanding of vehicle maintenance, welding and fabrication. You hold a valid UK driving licence (Cat C) and are proficient in using fleet management and diagnostic equipment.

With a collaborative spirit and the ability to work independently, you thrive in a dynamic environment where you can make a tangible impact. Your adaptability and commitment to delivering value for money will make you an asset to our team.

Application and conditions

If you are ready to take on this exciting challenge and contribute to the success of our district council, we invite you to apply and join a team that values public service and excellence.

An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. Huntingdonshire District Council does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and cannot provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or sponsor for any role.

Application process: please complete the application form. The closing date is 9am on Monday 29 September 2025 and interviews will be held shortly after. This is a rolling campaign and we will review applications on an ongoing basis and may close the advert early if we receive suitable applications.

We are currently adopting flexible working where possible, including remote work where feasible, with a move toward a hybrid office model in the future. Candidates should be within commutable distance of our offices in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, or be able to attend meetings as required if located further away.

For questions regarding submitting an application, please contact the Recruitment Team at recruitment@huntingdonshire.gov.uk. Please refer to the HDC website for the official closing date to ensure you do not miss out on applying.
