Job Summary
Mental Health in Schools Support Team (MHST) Educational Mental Health Practitioner. X4 Posts Band 4 Full-Time. City & Hackney CAMHS are recruiting to 4 x full-time posts as Educational Mental Health Practitioners in Schools Support Team. The service commenced in September 2019 and has funding to increase MHSTs in City & Hackney as part of Wave 14 roll out January 2026. The EMHP role delivers evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across educational settings and healthcare sectors in England.
Successful candidates will be offered a full-time educational programme for the role. The course fees are funded, and salary support for the post will be funded at NHS Agenda for Change (AfC) at Band 4. You will gain credits towards completing a postgraduate degree/diploma level qualification, with potential for employment on completion of training at a starting salary based on NHS AfC Band scale. Re-banding to Band 5 will depend on successful completion of the diploma.
NB. A permanent position cannot be guaranteed within City & Hackney CAMHS post-qualification; this depends on service needs at that time.
Main duties of the job
Under supervision and with support, develop knowledge and practice skills in:
* Delivering evidence-based intervention for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems in an education setting.
* Helping children and young people with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services.
* Supporting and facilitating staff in education settings to identify and manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.
* Working with and within educational environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services.
* Evidence development of skills and knowledge to record and evidence progression towards an academic award and demonstrable practical ability.

Job Description and Person Specification
Job responsibilities (training role within the Green Paper for Transforming children and young people’s mental health): the post holder will work within a service providing low-intensity interventions while undertaking a programme of training, delivering CBT-based self-management interventions to children and young people with mild to moderate anxiety/depression and/or behavioural difficulties. The post holder will attend all taught/self-study days required by the education provider and work in the service on remaining days. The role involves working with children, young people and parents from diverse backgrounds, using interpreters when necessary, and a commitment to equal opportunities.
Essential qualifications and experience:
* Undergraduate degree, upper second class or above, in Psychology or related subject.
* Previous experience of working with children and young people in either a health or educational setting.
* Knowledge of the educational system in England.
* Knowledge of children and young people gained through academic study in child development, child wellbeing or mental health.
