FCO Expression of Interest _ Future Campaigns
The Queensland Fire Department is inviting expressions of interest for the Future Campaigns role in our Fire Communications Centres. This is an application step for the forthcoming permanent part‑time (and full‑time in Central Region) communications officer positions.
Purpose of the role
The Fire Communications Centres are responsible for emergency call‑taking, dispatching, coordinating and managing Queensland Fire Department resources. Staff monitor alarms, process inquiries, update data, collate reports and maintain the incident management system.
Key Requirements
* Currently holds a valid Blue Card (from Blue Card Services) with supporting evidence.
* Australian Citizenship, New Zealand Citizenship or Australian Resident Status.
* Has or will obtain a Certificate III in Public Safety (Emergency Communications Centre Operations).
* Ability to successfully complete the Communications Training and Professional Development Programme (CTPDP) at the prescribed level.
Desirable Requirements
* Typing speed of 45 words per minute with 95% accuracy.
* Has or will obtain First Aid and CPR certificates.
Your Key Accountabilities
* Accept incoming emergency calls and collect relevant information.
* Assess risks and available resources to determine the appropriate response.
* Dispatch and coordinate resources, notifying other organisations as required.
* Maintain and update incident information in the centre’s computer‑aided dispatch system.
* Provide post‑incident administration including reports to stations and agencies.
* Monitor alarm signals and respond according to Communications Doctrine and Directives.
* Mentor and guide new staff.
* Contribute to the improvement of operational and administrative systems.
* Identify technical faults and liaise with the Specialist Operational Services Unit.
* Undertake general administrative and project duties such as maintaining resource information, portfolio activities, and routine system tests.
