The Role - Financial Controller Reporting to the Managing Director and working closely with a non-exec Finance Director, youll take full responsibility for the accounting function across a small but expanding portfolio of fast-growing limited companies. Your focus will be on providing strong financial governance, high-quality insight and decision support to enable profitable, sustainable growth. Key responsibilities include: Producing monthly management accounts with meaningful analysis and recommendations Preparing and managing budgets and cashflow forecasts Analysing financial performance to identify opportunities for cost control and margin improvement Supporting strategic decision-making through robust financial insight Liaising with external funders and supporting funding and grant applications Ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements and UK accounting standards Managing year-end processes with external accountants Leading the migration from Sage Line 50 to Xero In the initial phase, youll also provide hands-on support across day-to-day accounting activities (including sales and purchase ledgers, bank reconciliations, VAT returns, payroll journals and intercompany transactions). As you add value and the business grows, youll recruit support to take on transactional activity, enabling you to focus on leadership, strategy and performance. Youll bring: Experience in a financial controller or senior management accounting role within a growing SME Sound professional judgement and the confidence to act as a trusted adviser to the Managing Director Strong commercial acumen and the confidence to challenge and influence decision-making Excellent Excel skills and experience using accounting software (Xero preferred) A CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualification (or working towards) The ability to work autonomously, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines A practical, proactive and calm approach, even in a fast-paced environment Strong communication skills and credibility with senior stakeholders Ready to Apply?
