MAIN DUTIES
Relationships with Young People
* Have high expectations of youngpeople including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educationalpotential and to ensure students are treated as unique individuals.
* Hold positive values and attitudes and adopt high standards of behaviour in their professional role.
* Motivate and build self-esteem andself-worth/self-belief, developing a ‘can do’ attitude with students.
Communication
* Communicate effectively withstudents and colleagues.
* Communicate effectively withparents and carers at appropriate times, conveying relevant information aboutattainment, objectives and progress.
* Participate in open events andparents/student consultation evenings as appropriate.
Teaching and Learning
* Demonstrate a good up to dateworking knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning andassessment strategies and know how to use and adopt them to provideopportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.
* Be fully conversant with theassessment requirements for the subjects/curriculum areas taught, includingthose relating to public examinations and qualifications.
* Being fully conversant with arange of approaches to assessment including the importance of formativeassessment.
* Understand what makes good ‘one toone’ academic monitoring interviews with students, in order to provide studentswith constructive individual feedback on strengths and recipes for improvementincluding action plans for improvement.
* Demonstrate a secure knowledge andunderstanding of your subject and related pedagogy.
* Teach challenging, well organisedlessons and sequences of lessons across the ability range taught in which:
o An appropriate range of teachingstrategies and resources are utilised.
o Students’ prior knowledge andattainment are built upon, in order that they meet learning objectives and makesustained progress.
o Adapt language to suit thedifferential ability of students, when introducing new ideas and concepts usingexplanations, questions, discussions and plenaries effectively teach engagingand motivational lessons designed to raise levels of attainment.
* Keep adequate records of studentsin your charge.
* Follow the school’s scheme ofwork, homework assessments and be involved in regular updating and review.
* Manage the learning of individualsand whole classes effectively, modifying teaching appropriately to suit thestage of the lesson and needs of the learner.
* Use assessment as part of teachingto diagnose needs, set realistic and challenging targets for improvements andplanning future teaching.
* Review the effectivenessofteaching and its impact on student progress and attainment through reviews withthe Head of School.
TeamWorking and Collaboration
* Work with team member and as ateam member; identify opportunities for working colleagues and sharingeffective practice with them.
* Participate in School Meetings andcontribute to the use and development of appropriate specifications/syllabuses,schemes of work, assessment strategies and teaching and learning approaches.
AdditionalDuties
* Contribute to and participate incontinuous professional development activities and whole staff meetings/CPD.
* Be committed to the safeguardingand wellbeing of Young People.
* To observe at all timesconfidentiality appropriate to the post and work within Trust guidelines ofData Protection.
* You may be required to work up to 2 eveningsper academic year to support trust events.
