SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire Start Date: September 2025 Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only Salary: £89 – £105 per day GSL Education is currently seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant for a specialist school setting in Scarborough, to start in September 2025. This full-time role offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students with complex needs. About the School: This is a well-regarded special school supporting children and young people aged 2 to 16 with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including autism, moderate to severe learning difficulties, and social, emotional, or behavioural needs. The school prides itself on its nurturing and inclusive environment, where staff work closely with therapists, families, and other professionals to create bespoke educational experiences tailored to each child. SEN Teaching Assistant Key Responsibilities: Provide individualised classroom support for students with EHCPs, adapting learning to meet their developmental and emotional needs. Assist with communication strategies, sensory integration, and life-skills activities, both in the classroom and during transitions. Support pupils in regulating emotions and engaging in their learning using trauma-informed and positive behaviour strategies. Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and multidisciplinary teams to promote consistent, child-centred support. Help create a safe, stimulating, and structured learning environment that promotes independence and confidence. Ideal SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements: Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs (school, care, or community settings). Calm, patient, and proactive in responding to challenging behaviours and emotional needs. Comfortable with personal care and supporting students with complex physical or communication needs. Willing to learn and develop professionally in a specialist SEN environment. Relevant training (e.g. Team Teach, Makaton, PECS, moving and handling) is desirable but not essential.
