Offer description

What will I be doing?

As our Chemist, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of a single stage AMS system configured for carbon-14 testing, along with managing the associated Carbon Extraction and Graphitisation System (CEGS). Your role involves prioritising workloads to meet customer needs, producing accredited analytical reports under ISO 17025 standards, and maintaining the laboratory’s quality management system. You will lead method development and validation for AMS techniques, contribute to UKAS assessments, manage lab stocks, and troubleshoot instrument issues to minimise downtime. Your time will be split between hands-on instrument operation and office-based reporting and quality control activities in the same building.

The working pattern is 09:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday, with flexibility within site hours.
This is a full-time, on-site role based at our Washington Laboratory.

What are the requirements?

* Experience or expertise in operating or working with Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) and Carbon Extraction and Graphitisation Systems (CEGS)
* Graduate level degree or minimum HNC in a relevant science discipline, suitable for candidates with AMS-related knowledge
* Strong understanding of UKAS ISO 17025 and quality management systems within an analytical laboratory
* Proven ability to develop and validate analytical methods in line with accreditation standards
* Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills with a proactive attitude
* Good time management and the ability to work independently as well as part of a small team
* Safety awareness and commitment to adhering to health and quality standards
* Willingness to take on additional responsibilities and support continual improvement initiatives
